| 8/17/07 The AMT Annual Educational Program and National Meeting in Orlando Florida was a huge success! The programs and the seminars were outstanding! Several of the seminars by David Plaut were as good as any University presentation. I attended the AMT Order of the Golden Microscope dinner, as well as the general sessions and the district meetings etc. The election went off without a hitch and without much politics or bickering. All in all, it was a worthwhile meeting. Norm Frankel PhD, MT AMT Convention 2007It was definitely a different experience to attend the AMT convention for the 1st time in my life. Before reaching the World Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort for the convention I had mixed feelings, a little nervous with excitement. But let me tell you, at the end it worked out well. I had a great time in Orlando, Florida, "Mickey Mouse's Home Town". The convention started on Sunday, July 8th with the Education, Qualifications, and Standards committee meetings. Monday, July 9th was the AMT committee meetings first day. Here comes July 19th, Tuesday, when the real fun starts. Especially with the welcome and keynote address. We should all attend this once in a lifetime to know what Ms. Mary Feeley had to say about HDD... (Humor Deficit Disorder). It was amazing to know that this is a universal disorder. Ms. Vivian Montgomery shared information on how to transport infectious and biological substances. Other educational and scientific sessions such as abnormal platelets, platelet function testing, complications of blood transfusion, the importance of quality control, allergy, and HGC were offered in the afternoon. We Med Techs are usually in behind the curtain, but Dr. Michael Bell shared interesting cases on forensics and showed how the laboratory helps the medical examiner. Wednesday and Thursday, July 11th and 12th, were also filled up with a lot of interesting educational sessions such as pediatric hematology, communication skills for phlebotomists, compliance with standards and regulations, what is required for new method validation, and so on. The Tuesday evening Welcome Reception and the Thursday evening Awards Dinner were two great events to see what AMT convention is about for first time attendees. Friday was filled up with meetings for delegates to attend. It made us aware of what is happening in the real world and in AMT and it showed what needs to be done and if we can help out in any way to make a difference in our life as well as in a great organization such as American Medical Technologists. Falguni Thakkar, MT (AMT) July 29, 2007 I.S.S.A.M.T. I attended several seminars that were outstanding at this year's AMT National Convention in Orlando, Florida. The general session Forensics demonstrated how clinical chemistry, DNA, Hematology, Microbiology, and Toxicology analysis all come together to help the medical examiner solve forensic cases. I had a wonderful time at the AMT Welcome Party. I won the AMT basket full of goodies which included an $85.00 certificate for a one-year membership. The music and food at the Awards Dinner was outstanding. From 4pm - 12 midnight there was a fabulous piano player in the Dolphin Hotel lobby and the music was, as Walt Disney would say, Magical. Sincerely, Josephine Harden, MT |
